Title: Flaky Terrain
Post by: Gforce on April 07, 2009, 03:14:15 PM
Wow its been a while since I've been here.I was just messing around with the redirect shader and the twist and shear shader. The clouds are just temporary and more of just a filler. Any suggestions on terrain coloring or clouds?

Cool pov and I also like your "temporary clouds". : D
The terrain looks very volcany, maybe you may want and try some dramatic colouring - very dark or almost black for the lower cold-lava-like terrain, some water to fake aktual hot lava and a glowing sky again with high colour contrasts.
The most important thing this render needs is a structured surface map imo.
Keep it up!

Hey thanks, you gave me a great idea for the terrain. I want to make each layer (or maybe groups of layers if I have to simply it) a varied progression of hardened lava. The only problem is I really don't know how to color each little layer of it. Can someone give me a few tips? I'll post the file along with this post. Also if there is a way to make water fill in only certain ares I might be able to do the lava idea too. I'm a bit of a beginner at this stuff.

If you want a shader to fill in only certain areas, the painted shader is your friend - just type "painted" in the Search box.

Thanks for the file.

I like your beginning.  It might be cool to have something like hot lava seeping under the surface of your cracked terrain.  Cool beginnings.

I added some color to landscape and made some new clouds. Think the color is going in the right direction?

It's a little difficult in this lighting to see your coloring, but what I can see looks pretty good.

How did you get the ground to be like that?
