Title: I need a man.
Post by: kevnar on April 20, 2009, 07:48:43 PM
Not in a gay way or anything. I want to put a little mountain climber figure on top of a mountain. Where do I get a such a model?

I checked on some of the other model sites. I found all sorts of plants, animals, buildings, and even vehicles, but no people.

Your problem here is that you dont just need any old man but one in a specific pose and only you will know what that pose is. Therefor you should look into something along the lines of Poser, I know that sometimes they have released fully functional version on 3D World cover CD's.

Alternatively take a look at "DAZ STUDIO (http://www.daz3d.com/i/software/studio?_m=d)", a free human modeling package (personally I found it a little quirky) or "MAKE HUMAN (http://www.makehuman.org/blog/index.php)", free and open source which is always good :)

Good luck

I just need a guy standing there, even if he looks like he's waiting for a bus. The only issue might be what he's wearing. You don't go to the top of a mountain in a business suit after all.

Why not create your own with DAZ Studio and Michael 4 Base? Ok, Michael needs some clothes.

Alternatively you could extract him from a photograph and bung him on a billboard, or even Photoshop the image in post Terragen and reshade to suit the ambience of the Terragen render lighting. Kinda' matte painting style.

I was also going to suggest Daz Studio as well even though I really can't get on with it at all.  If you can get the Zarking thing set up properly you should be able to set up the figure you need and export him as an obj.

I have seen this as well.  I know several people are using suspect copies of Poser for "Evaluation", purposes. But I would rather have a legal copy of an older version that I can evaluate in my own time and buy if it's any good.  So if anybody can dig up a link to a free version no matter how old that would be helpful.

I do have a full license to the latest version of poser (because it was on sale a while ago). But I don't think I am allowed to distribute any model that comes with it, as you'd have to pay for that.

I checked wikipedia, and found that Poser 4 is 10 years old! As you can't find anything about it on the Smith Micro site, would that be abandonware? Would that make any torrent or other download of it legal?

I'm absolutely sure that theres nothing illegal about using the software from cover CD's, its just getting hold of em thats the chore :) Daz Studio is however completely free and theres plenty of content freely available too.
