Title: Rock-Surface + Semiprocedural Canyon TechPack, preview#2!
Post by: Tangled-Universe on May 01, 2009, 06:06:40 AM
Hi everybody,

As some of you may know I'm working on another techpack.
Due to some serious problems with the renderer (gaps in displacements) I've decided to start from scratch.
The solutions for the problems were effective, but rendertimes weren't acceptable at all anymore.

So here's the new version:

The pack will contain a very detailed rocksurface with (multiple) strata, stretched pf-displacements and voronoi cracks.
The rocksurface comes in 2 setups:
A semiprocedural canyon generated by TG2-heightfields (so no .ter-files)
A semiprocedural canyon you can paint in your own desired shape (so how cool is that! :) )

There's still some work to do but I think I'm getting there now.

Great to see you nailed it :-)

If they had that for Star Wars Episode 1, they would have just had to take the paint brush, and paint a really cool pod race track canyon, create the animation path and render away.
A pretty cool productivity tool! Besides that it's looking fantastic :D

And a new preview :)

I made some adjustments to the displacements and added 2 more strata-shaders.
This rendered in 5 hours with detail 0.85, AA 7, GI 1/3 + ss. Atmo samples were 128 because of the glow-effect at the ridge.
The sun does NOT shine through the terrain, it is a glow effect ;)

Some more to follow soon ;D

Added some extra detail, it's finished now!

I'm going to organize stuff now and write instructions and then the pack is ready for release :)
