Title: Cloisters and Ivy
Post by: buzzzzz1 on May 08, 2009, 03:59:49 PM
Playing with Ivy Generator.

(This is assuming you are somewhat familiar with using PoseRay and Ivy Generator.)

Have you ever created Ivy for an object in Ivy Generator and then tried to line it up with the object you grew it on in TG2? If so you know what a P.I.T.A. it can be. Below is a solution for hemorrhoids.  :D ;)

Some may already know this but then some may not, so here goes.  I found an easy way to position your Ivy to your Object before importing into TG.

First run the object that you want Ivy growing on through PoseRay. After you have all your textures applied and any adjustments that need to be done export your object.

Next load that same object into Ivy Generator, create your Ivy and export.

Then open PoseRay back up and import the object that you grew the Ivy on. Next while still in PoseRay choose Input tab again but this time choose "Merge 3D Model" and load your ivy.   Your ivy should be attached to your object in the correct place. Apply the ivy textures and export the object with a different name like "whatever w Ivy".

Now you are ready to load your ivy laden object into TG and of course you will need to reapply all you bump and alpha maps.  Hope this saves you some time, I know it did me.

Here's my result.

Cheers!

Cool work Jay! I like the settings of the Ivy. I used it some times before and the settings can be pretty difficult.
I used it here: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=4231.msg47308#msg47308 (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=4231.msg47308#msg47308)

I also tried to grow ivy on other and more complex stuff than trees and ran into the same stuff as you, so thanks a lot for writing this up!
There's a nice video tut around from a scandinavian guy (who swears when he presses the wrong button, so funny!) and he explains the ivy gen quite well.

That's looking pretty good. Love the vegitation and atmosphere. How are you doing the grass populations? I've not had much success with that to date.

Thanks all!

Frank, I don't know if you noticed but the first image has a flaw on the left side. I cut it off and uploaded another Image. Dam crop rendering! LOL   Got to blame something for my error.  ;)

You've been taking some light-year leaps in TG2 Jay; this is a beautiful render. You must be very pleased with it.

What can I add? All superlatives have been said. Just great!!! I'd like to know where you get all your models from...or how much you spend for them *yikes*
