Title: Migration at Dusk
Post by: Dune on May 11, 2009, 09:21:15 AM
A new WIP while testing birds in flight following the surface. Made these swans (5 different pops) in XFrog, drew a little line in a painted shader for the birds to follow. You need to turn down the lights to have a good view, though.

First thing that struck my mind before reading your comment: the birds are exactly following the surface! Beatiful! :)

Beautiful!
the effect having the birds standing out in front of darker and brighter background reminds of some pictures by M.C. Escher.
Best regards, Jan

@littlecannon: I have to correct myself, I didn't use a painted shader but simple powerfractals (ridges, high contrast, high roughness, with the X=15, Y=1, Z=1), as the blending shader for all 5 populations. They were further restricted to the same small area of 300x100 meters or so, but the heights of the objects themselves were different per population, between 20 and 30 meters, to lift them. And (very important) restrict the rotation to 0-10 degrees. So it's very simple actually.

Cool work. The birds flow through this scene very well.
