Title: Williamsburg, Virginia
Post by: gregsandor on May 20, 2009, 06:08:47 AM
Work in progress; updated the model with 10m, 1m and 1 foot resolution orthophotos. Now I'll overlay the 1781 Rochambeau map and modify the texture to reflect the 18th century terrain.

10m dem UTM projection, about 37 km square.

*looks for my house*

nope, after all looks you are centered on colonial williamsburg, and im about 10 minutes from there.

I can recognize a lot of features though of where i've been.

That IS a photograph - right? Because if it's a render, it is mighty impressive!

I like it. Can you tell us what is texture and what is terrain or objects?

Which direction is your house?  Maybe it is on the map.

Domdib -- Rendered in TG2.

Hannes, it is a terrain model very carefully overlaid with satellite and orthophoto imagery.  Actually this was just a quick test render -- I'm setting up the base for some old maps.

Here's a view with Rochambeau's 1781 map overlaid -- this was drawn in September around the time of the victory at Yorktown.

Aaahh - it's the projection of the orthophoto/satellite imagery that got me  :) I thought the surfacing was procedural as well  ;D Still mighty impressive, and I'm sure it must have taken you ages. Look forward to seeing the final product.
