Here where I live these days were very hot days :-\
So I needed some freshness! ;D
Seriously, TG2 can render the best water I've ever seen!
This, of course, is a WIP; some improvements need to be done (expecially on the stones and the "wet layer"). Feel free to suggest something :)
Hope you like it!
P.S. I almost forgot! Models by Walli (and sold by NWDA. Thanks guys!)
veeery nice :-)
Are you going to submit that to the contest?
Cheers,
Frank
Very interesting!
I like the POV a lot, offers a detailed foreground and a nicely built up depth. The elements of big stones, grasses and plants work very well.
The lighting is pretty well but on the small stones I think it looks a bit "flat" (no obvious idea of direction of light).
The water looks fresh indeed, but the bloom is a bit distracting I think. Maybe you could disable the bloom or reduce the brightness of the reflections slightly and slightly increase the spread of reflections along.
Looking forward to see your update!
Martin
Very good start to me too !
i really like your light and composition. the colours of the big stones in the foreground is great (lovely moss).
be careful, you have some vegetation coming out of the left rock though ;)
hope to see some more soon !
I think the foreground is excellent, but something about the background isn't working for me - I presume you've applied a DOF mask, but instead of looking like a blurred version of the high quality foreground, it just looks a bit like a low quality render there.
wow. i like. although i agree with Tangled-Universe about the bloom on the water.
I don't know... I like the bloom. It adds to the freshness, and realism.
Great render!
Perhaps I'm not that picky about other people's renders but I think this is near perfection!
Wonderful job. My meager knowledge of TG2 doesn't allow to give any more hints. ;)
great render, very nice mood!
great start!
Fantastic, gratulations!
My only suggestion: more variation in the smaller stones would look even more realistic.
DJ
This is perfect. Completely like a photo, though a little fuzz (at the very top).

Picky is probably not what you really meant, however I'd like to explain that I consider Gio a rapidly evolving/learning TG2 user who can make very nice images. He already proved that for me.
As far as I know him he will consider my suggestions (and from the others as well) rather helpfull than being picky/over-criticising :)
Cheers,
Martin
This is really really good, could almost pass for a photograph.

Oops, I actually wanted to say "that picky with other people's renders as I am with mine" - that makes the whole thing clearer. Misunderstanding, sorry - that's the problem sometimes if English is not my native language...I find your criticism absolutely helpful.
Great mood and texturing!
Hey! Thank you all for your comments! ;D
Here it is the V2
Maybe I've saturated to much the water, I think that it will be different in the next version.
Still some issues with plants and stones, but I'm going to fix them.
Hope you like it!

Thank you TU :)
tumasch: a friend of mine, who is attending informatic engineering, sometimes says "everybody starts as n00b". So keep on enjoying tg2 and you will get some really cool stuff! ;)
this time :) you need to flatten the small stones on the shore. Usually stones around there should be flatter and less rough.
I agree about the saturation of the water.
Great to witness this being developed :)

Version 3!
Getting closer to final ;D
This is looking pretty awesome. The only thing I think could be improved much is the angular nature of the stones. That could be present in nature, but it does make it look a bit more obviously CG here. Otherwise it's very realistic.
- Oshyan
Oshyan is right, of course...it's still very good. Great lighting.
Fantastic, great attention to detail.
You have a gem of an image in progress here ...keep on!
this is looking very, very nice...looking forward to thge final!
I'm also looking forward to the final. This looks amazing. The bent tree in the background really makes the picture interesting.
Is it me, or do the textures on top of the rocks in the middle ground look kind of distorted or stretched? :-\
the only thing missing now would be some DOF, apart from that, this is one of the most amazing "close up" renderings coming out of Terragen that I have seen so far!
Thank you all :)
How can I smooth the stones? I've tried but with fairly poor results...
I'm also thinking to submit this to NWDA, so I must do a good job ;D
Super realistic. I love it how you guys manage to render the plants so sharply, yet not oversharpened. Very impressive!
Well, I can say how I render models; I don't know if more talented artists do the same, but I had some good results working this way.
First of all you need good-resolution models, for example: if you plan to render a vista you'll need some hi-resolution grass and ground cover. Actually it isn't so simple establishing if a model is an "HQ" one or not (surely Walli's ones are really good! ;D), but some factors such as number of poligons, MB or quality of the textures will help.
For what concernes the rendering I usually prefer set details between 0.65 - 0.85 (it depends on the scene) and AA between 5-7 and choose a filter such as Mitchell-Netravali or Catmull-Rom.
In this case in particular I've also sharpened a little bit the bottom of the image in GIMP (using alpha channels and two layers).
The V4... I'm pretty satisfied now!
Postwork entirely made in GIMP: Focus blur, Cromatic aberration and a little bit of lens flare.
Now the "old freshness" has been restored (it was lost in V2 e V3 ;D ) and I've smoothed the big stones.
Hope you like it!
Woah, I think this looks amazing! I really like the DOF effect... makes it look like a model or something. :o
I like it :D
Where had the freshness gone? I can't quite figure out what it is exactly but when looking closer, you're right. So what magic did you do to restore it? ;)
The water looks superb, and I also love the DOF effect in the foreground. Great work!
fantastic! the dof really does a good job to bring depth into the scene!
really good job
Stupendous. Some of the best small-scale objects I've seen in TG2. Nice job!
- Oshyan
Image of the week. Great work, love the DOF.
:o
Look at the sharpness of some of these plants! That really amazes me. The DOF gives the whole thing an even more photo-like look. Veeeeery realistic and one of the best TG works seen so far.
Very good work Gio! Really love it!
Martin
I like the final a lot well done.
Hey! Thank you very much :)
MacGyver, I modified the water setting in V2 making it more turbid to see how it looked like. In the final I restored the old settings (but actually not 100% the same).
Now I am rendering a larger and more detailed version (1500x1000, detail 0.8 and AA 8), but, apart from thread errors ( ;D ;D I'm getting used to them now, I should upgrade my system), I don't know if I could post it here because of the NWDA contest running... Maybe after the 15th of july...
Excellent! I like people taking initiative :P What were the original settings you used in the "final" version?

You already submitted your current version to the contest, but you're allowed to replace it with this new version if you'd like.
The limitation is one image per person.

I love the mood, very relaxing:) Reminds me about where my girlfriend lives.. ^,^
