Title: Old Junk
Post by: efflux on May 27, 2009, 09:52:27 PM
I noticed a thread on the forum about lots of posts by people but not so many images. I decided to pastiche together some stuff never before seen. I could post more full images but many of my planets don't get finished properly or I end up with in between versions that never make it to final renders. These are some files I found that survived the recycle bin. There are more but I tried to find the most interesting. Probably I could have saved hundreds more but generally I bin a lot. Maybe these are of interest. I don't have time at the moment to start anything new. Make sure you zoom this to full size because I made it tall.

Thanks. Some of these I will go back to. The one at the bottom was my last WIP.

I just changed that image. I noticed that some layers were overlapping wrong but you'd probably not have notice.

these are so good, ... a shame they haven't been posted in full.

So many hidden treasures. Please post a few of them in full size.

Thanks,
Frank

All those renders have great surfaces and great terrains. Why didn't you show these before?!
Great work!

Echo the call of those above to bring your light out from under that bushel. Some pretty spectacular stuff there.

The birds-eye view from above the tall, teetering blue/green tower is fantastic! I'd love to see that fullsize.

Thanks for the comments.

I work on planetary scale. This means I aim for a planet that can have endless rendering possibilities. I try not to get precious about a certain scene or POV. I travel about a lot and planets modulate from one version to the next. Many ideas get dropped but have scope for going back to. Many ideas never make it to the final planet. Hence a lot of what seems like ditched stuff.

Before I get back into heavy planet work I intend to work through some techniques more carefully. Things I experimented with that were never refined. Accidents etc. I'll post about a few things (eventually).

The trouble at the moment is that I'm selling a house and I'll be moving so not much time. I'm downsizing all my stuff, software I use etc. I even flogged my Mac and Logic Pro. Getting working processes going with both music and art so I can actually get something finished for a change.

I also need a faster computer but this will all be sorted in the next few months. I'm not sure how a new computer is going to pan out with TG2. I'll install Ubuntu 64 bit. You can still use a 32 bit version of Wine. Even if TG2 works it might be a lot slower than on Windows but I'll see.

At the moment my computer is hammering away scanning hundreds of old 35mm negatives. Just another downsizing of stuff before I move so I doubt I will be doing any more rendering any time soon.
