I would like to run some tests with the TG2TP renderer using models form the Stanford Scanning Repository (Namely: The Stanford Bunny and The Stanford Dragon). What I would like to know is can these be imported in the native file format they are in or one of the known formats I know they are in such as .PLY and VRML?
If not could you tell me where I could find these models in a format that TG2TP supports as I'd like to start my tests as soon as possible?
Regards to you.

That would be pretty sweet, those models are millions of polys so I would like to see how TG2TP handles them. I would probably be able to convert vrml to .obj in Cinema 4D.
Thanks MealtingIce could you put the resulting conversions in a .zip file and put it up on the "Sheared Files" forum if that would be possible?
Regards to you.

Intresting idea cyber-angel the only thing that I would wonder about would be whether TGTP could handel the poly-count but I could lower it in Zbrush if MelthingIce could convert it to .obj.
Regards,
Will
I'm having issues finding where to download the models in vrml format. Any chance you could link me?
An enterprising Imagine3D user[my base modeller] uploaded a number of these, poly reduced to sane levels, to an Imagine site at www.imagine3d.org. As near as i can remember there's no dl's unless you register but it's a free site and wothh it for the dl's if you're interested.Alternaely, you might want to let me get them and upload to shared files as ,thinking now....they'd be Imagine's .iob format..3DXplorer reads these if you have that. let me check on the dl thing and I'll get right back to here.

this works for me and i'm not a member:D
http://www.imagine3d.org/modules/wfdownloads/ (http://www.imagine3d.org/modules/wfdownloads/)
also those 3d files from the stanford site are huge a few 100mb each:(
those 2 are, size wise:
dragon Originally 1,132,830 poly's, I have reduced it down to 250,000 poly's
bunny Originally 69,451 poly's, I decided to leave it at this resolution without any poly reduction
if you can't convert .iob let me know here and I'll .obj em fer ya. I should mention that I managed to dl without logging in so anyone can..
If possible, could you convert the space and ships (under models) for me? I'd really appreciate it
give us a linky to find this file you want converted....
If any one has PolyTrans my understanding is, is that it has a .ply importer so if any one has PolyTrans maybe you could help out in that regard there is other software that I have found but it involves compiling source code some thing I have never done and don't know how.
Polytrans seems the way to go.
The Stanford Scanning Repository can be found here.

These models can also be found at the Large Geometric Models Archive at the Georgia Institute of Technology which are in .ply and .iv formats you can also download the as VRML files in .wrl format and can be found here.

The models are here:http://www.imagine3d.org/modules/wfdownloads/viewcat.php?cid=2 (http://www.imagine3d.org/modules/wfdownloads/viewcat.php?cid=2)

MrWho,
What format are these models in? They may still need to be converted to a format that Terragen can read!
Regards to you.
Cyber-Angel
The models are in .iob format but I could .obj em...further to that did you mean bill grahams space zip...I'm back online for a while if you're still here, let me know..
Here's the models of the ships with .mtl files as well. You may have to run them thru Wings3D still to make them TG2-able but I've had some luck.
I can do the coversion of the dragon and bunny but will need another place to put them as they are too big, even zipped, to put here. I'm thinking meltingice would be a good place as there's a space for resources there already IIRC from my last visit. let me know if anyone has thoughts on this.
I can host them, how big are the files?
That wold be cool man, the sizes are:
bunny=2491kb
dragone=6785kb
Let me know if you can handle these sizes..way bigger as an .obj tha as a m .iob for sure..like 10 times....

Thats not big at all, just email them to me at meltingice@meltingice.net and I'll get em hosted for everyone.
what program is being used to convert these into obj?.... thanks
king_tiger 666'
The ones from the imagine3d[.iob files] site load and convert well in 3DExplorer. Also there is a very inexpensive app I heartily recommend called accutrans by micromouse http://www.micromouse.ca/ that is excellent and only $20.00 Us or Canadian if you live in Canada. It as well is much more than a convertor as you'll see if you go there. It does a huge number of formats as well.
Heres the bunny: http://www.meltingice.net/downloads/index.php?share=4&path=models%2Fbunny1.obj
and the dragon: http://www.meltingice.net/downloads/index.php?share=4&path=models%2Fdragon2.obj
Both are in .obj format, enjoy!
Thanks for you help meltingIce and to every one else now these tests with the renderer can begin.
Regards to you.

As a further exploration on getting .obj into TG2 with textures I found this in the Vue Forum at Renderosity. It's very good at converting .obj but re pathing the textures needs to be done if they're in any folde except the one the final .tgo will live in. I have been importing the .obj and saving as .tgo straight away and then re pathing the textures on the .tgo and re saving it over itself. Here's a render of a model found online. The app is called PoseRay and can be found at:
http://mysite.verizon.net/sfg0000/ It says there that you need POVray installed but others have found that not to be the case. I installed POVray anyway to be certain as ther was a link to it on the same page.
And here's a Moebius87 freebie I found long ago at Renderosity in Free Stuff. Sadly they don't seem to be there any more. I guess it was a loss leader for his full set, LOL
