Here's a link to a possible submission to the NWDA contest, plus some I have done to push my limits;

Possible entry up above.

Messing around with large fake stones and the lambert shader.

Just a nice landscape.
All of these are nice and could be entered, with a little tweaking. Go for it!
The first one is absolutely the best of all 3 imo.
With some extra surfacing, perhaps some variation in trees, work on the scales and especially the lighting (a bit dark?) this could be a great image.
All sounds like a lot of work, but with the time left I think you can really pull it off.
Martin
yeah the first one is a very good start imo :)
This is an 'improved' version. I had the atmosphere/clouds samples turned way down. Ambient Occlusion was added to the sky and landscape.

The first is the best ! Really !
Thanks! I still have a couple things to try.
I think you have three different scenes with three specific disciplines here. The first is shadow and atmosphere, the second is displacement and colouring, the third is populations. What do you want to work on? All have excellent potential.
I have a new version in which the atmosphere has been greatly modified. I am working with the object distribution with each mod. I think the displacements are how I want them.
I just looked at the first. The newer one, which I have not rendered, will look Much better. It should be up Sunday.
This is probably my last edit for this pic. This is the one I will likely enter into the NWDA contest.
I changed the land alot. I used strata and lots of power fractal displacement. The sky has also been altered to three alto clouds, wispy top layer, larger middle layer, and small bumpy looking low level clouds. The trees are Walli's Pines and Xfrog's Palmettos.
