Title: French Pond
Post by: Henry Blewer on June 18, 2009, 12:37:15 PM
Here is one that I am working on. It's too dark now.

I think the clouds need some work also.

Maybe change the sun position or something to get more light on the foreground. I love the scene though!

Program crashed when I went to save the landscape. I had Blender, and KMPlayer running also. I think the OS said too much. Sorry...

Could it be you only have the free version of TG2?
If not, I suggest you render with much more AA, higher quality and higher resolution. Your scene elements are becoming better and better, but your render quality now lags behind.
Lastly, another suggestion. Renders look much better if you take a clear decision on what you want to optimze the exposure for: terrain or sky. Usually, when people try to bring out both equally, each element becomes rather mediocre (in their lighting), resulting in the image looking a little bit flat. In this render, I would try to expose for the vegetation more.

Cheers,
Frank

I am using the free version. I have tried to save for the full program, but things always come up. Plus, the job I have does not pay well. I like the job, and I feel like I am making a difference in the local community. This offsets the bad pay, but 1/2 of a months income just to pay the rent sucks.
That was my complaint for the day... thank you for reading.

I'll post the next render here. I am trying to get the lighting right.

I am working on the lighting of this one. Then the stones and ground shaders. The distribution shader has covered over my nice sands which looked great. I think I'll change things to power fractals. I am using child surface layers now. I added a lot of GI about 1.4 and enviro lighting. I think a second sun without shadows maybe more effective lighting.

I started this one right after the crash. It was not Terragen 2's fault. I had too many CPU intensive things running at once.

Here is an update on the Withywindle Vale. I resized the image and used a sharpening filter. I think this one is nearly finished. The clouds are blocking the sunlight on the foreground.

I may change the ground color, since it blends in with the water.

you still need much more exposure, njeneb.  :)

I applied a distance shader to the low level clouds. It brightened it up on the test render. I'll know sometime tomorrow morning after work and the render.
Thanks Frank!

This is the most recent version from last nights render session. I added some comments about it on my Flickr Photostream. Overall, I am quite happy with it.

I just wish I could render at higher resolution. Someday, and as soon as I can get the cash together.
