I've been trying to make mountains like they show in the series called "Lost". I am not sure what kinda mountains they called but I think I've to use Alpine Fractal
I've uploaded some screenshots from the show and other pictures as reference photos. I am not sure where the series is being shot but I think its somewhere in Hawaii (Based on the photos in the rar file). The photos in the rar file are from webshots and are taken in Hawaii. Considering that, I tried looking for DEM's of Hawaii but so far havent found anything yet.
I would appreciate if I can get help from you guys in any way

hmm well Im more a of Orbital man my self but for DEMs you could try: http://seamless.usgs.gov/Website/Seamless/viewer.php?startbottom=-85.0&starttop=85.0&startleft=-179.5&startright=179.5&limitbottom=-85.0&limittop=85.0&limitleft=-179.5&limitright=179.5
ya...I already tried it before...but couldnt find anything before...
hmm well I'm not sure how to make it in TGTP but I could try my hand and make a image map you could use for displacment in VUE6
Try exploring the various heightfield functions. You can add a whole bunch of stuff, such as erosion, in the heightfields that you can't add with fractals. That might help you, but I'm not sure....
Lost is being made in Hawaii mainly on Oahu on the "windward" side of the Island you can get DEMS of the Hawaiin Islands from a varitey of places a simple google search will take you there - or try this from the man himself at timster.net via ftp

can you give me ftp link to paste into my browser...the link on the groups is probably for ftp program and also the login info please
Well, I'd rather want the gal not the terrain ;)
For the first two views I would use erosion on a heightfield, too. Then a 'beach'-displacement. After that I would save the effort in a new .ter-file as the erosion takes too long to calculate.
give world machine a try, it can make mountains that look a bit like that, and it outputs to .ter so you can import it as a heightfield.

i had hawai dem files few months ago..
or here try here
http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/coasts/data/hawaii/dem.html
though there seems to be many dems of all the hawaiian islands so you shouldn't have a problem getting one you like... though some are quite chunky in size 150mb dems etc
thanx guys....I'll try out DEM's...I tried world machine but its pretty complicated and I can only make 512x512 terrain in free version.....and I am saving for something else so....DEM is the way for me.....
You could try planetGenesis, it's simpler to use and cost free and also does ter files.
Did you try the link?
That FTP site was taken down years ago.
