Title: Anak Krakatoa is rumbling...
Post by: latego on July 30, 2009, 05:08:41 PM
I just saw an article on Daily Mail site http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1203028/Will-Krakatoa-rock-world-Last-time-killed-thousands-changed-weather-years-deadlier.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1203028/Will-Krakatoa-rock-world-Last-time-killed-thousands-changed-weather-years-deadlier.html) about some pictures of Anak Krakatoa (Anak means the-son-of) activity.

They are really awesome (and also chilling...) and I think they might be of inspiration for the TG2 crowd.

Bye!!!

P.S.: a well known chinese curse is about living in interesting times...

Forget inspiration.  I'm expecting swarms of locusts to appear and then all kinds of bad stuff.
It can't blow up yet.  The movie doesn't come out until November 13, 2009 !!!   ;D

Nice thing about volcanoes, they can't be predicted well. I like that uncertainty. I don't worry about weather too much. But I am worried for all the people who will/might be displaced or die because of this.
The images are really good. In Star Wars 3, they used colored, under lighted applesauce or something for the lava. It could have been all CG.

Forget uncertainty.  I'm more concerned with the lack of sense of humor concerning the whole end times thing.
Are we all going out rendering, or laughing people?  I for one will not go down like this.  Oh wait .. my render is done!   ::)

I can't wait until 2013. Then the next end of times will come. If you think about it, everytime you go to sleep, it's the end of time.

No, the lava in Revenge of the Sith (The Practical physical effect) was done using Methyl cellulose with lights underneath to simulate the appearance of Lava, background lava flows where CGI added at the compositing stage along with, footage specialty shoot for Revenge of the Sith at Mt.Etna.  ;D

Regards to you.

Loads of people thought the world would end with the LHC but all that happened was a chart on a monitor spiked a little bit. I remember watching it on BBC news and the anchors asking their producer if anything had actually happened.

The end of the world always reminds me of when Geraldo Rivera thought he had found Al Capone's hidden vault. It was nearly as good as when he got a broken nose on his talk show.

The broken nose thing was just awesome!  I'm sure Geraldo thought that was the end of his world!

This got me curious and I looked it up on wikipedia, where it's stated that Anak Krakatoa is gaining 5 metres a year. At that rate it would take another 60 years or so to gain the same height as before the 1883 eruption. And of course there's no guarantee that that's what it will take - it may blow sooner than that or later.

The first image in that article is particularly fascinating.
