Title: Towers (desert landscape)
Post by: Henry Blewer on August 04, 2009, 09:08:27 AM
Made this one up yesterday. I was looking through the NWDA galleries. Had inspiration.

I also posted the tgd file for anyone to play with.

The file is simple. I like simple since it renders faster. Thanks for the comment!

Oh, yes, I like those monolithic mountains, and the rugged texturing on them.
I thought at first you had a pre-generated heightfield loaded in to get this effect, but if it's incorporated in the tgd I'm going to have fun with it as well.

I hit random in the height field a couple times. Interesting landscapes magically appeared. This might be my best so far.

looks good, however I think it loses some of it's impact from what I can only imagine is a crazy amount of jpg compression on the file, using a lot of compression really takes away all the fine detail.

I use the free version. This allows 3 AA max. I have tons of overtime this month. If I can keep the other expenses from stealing my capital, I may be able to afford the full version by Sept. 1. I switched from $8.00/pack cigarettes to $2.00/pack cigars. USA and NY are strange. They tax cigs like crazy, but pipe tobacco and cigars? Barely.

Could you be in danger of adding Terragening to your list of addictions/vices?
I recently went to the doctor complaining of high blood pressure. He gave me some tablets and advised me to do it no more than once a month. As you can see I'm taking his advice.  ;D

I am a sufferer of micro-vertex jitter. I also have insomnia, bad eyesight, I like Girls Aloud, and have a bad case of scruples. Here's a link to a different view.

I changed the camera location, the population density, and the altitude constraints.

Hard of hearing as well then.  :o

It's a nice scene, has the real retro feel of Tg 0.9 about it.  Nothing wrong with that.  ;D ;)

It needs some work, ok lots of work. I was shooting for a base scene. I normally make up my landscapes between 7pm and 11pm before work. This will make a nice start so I don't have to start from scratch.

I like the shapes of the monoliths - thanks for sharing!

I finished this render yesterday. I changed the displacement amplitude and hit random on the height field. It took forever to render since I forgot to turn off the water shader. It's still the same landscape as these others. I thought it came out well, considering how simple the set up terrain file is.

It took 23+ hours, but as I said, I forgot to turn the water shader off. It was not needed. Since I had a 12 hour shift, I thought that would be about the right time. I like it.

Yea Volker, I agree. I hate having my computer just idling. I made this landscape to be flexible. On my Flickr pages is a different view of the same landscape. I did it first, and thought the POV posted just above might be interesting. Here's the link to the first render.
