I am working on some dust and fake stones...
i want to have some feedbacks from you guys.
:o This is amazing. The detail is just perfect.
If I m not in the forum now I wiil say that is a real photo...
Good work
(ça me rappel les alentours des chantiers de construction)...
Fantastic realism!
Stop posting photographs!!
Richard
;D
thanks ^^
Seriously though :) This is very good but I'd like to see it again without the soft shadows. Soft shadows can add so much "impression" of realism it can be hard to see the work thats gone into the displacement and colours.
:)
Richard
Hi
I agree with cyphyr post from 04:02:43
ciao
Naoo
This is absolutely fantastic, I wish I could give you some tips but seriously it seems perfect to me... and I have to agree, if it wasn't for the fact, that it's on this forum and that some shapes look familiar I would be hard-pressed to say anything but that it is a foto! :-* :D
Never in my life I would have imagined that dirt can excite me that much ;D
Brilliant, all it needs are some tyre tracks!

errr... you mean you want me to take off some of the tweaks of this render to make it looks worst ?! Oo
I am sorry but i am not sure to really understand... my point in using TG2 is not to make real things but to try to do good looking renders... whatever it takes to fool the eyes of people...
but if i have 10 other hours to lose, i'll do a render without soft shadows.
kick-ass render, Franck! ;D
2 WORDS...
PHOTO REAL :o
one word...speechless!!
8-)
Hehe, I know what you mean, if only we all had another 10 hours to tweak this and that. No, I only was interested in the simply lit version so I could get a better look at your technique for your displacements and shading. It would almost certainly not be "better" but maybe more informative ...
cyphyr
I understand.
and as I said, if I have some time to lose, i'll show you a version without soft light (and maybe without water)
thats looking really great!
Very realistic Franck, bravo! Is that short dry grass bottom left or small vertical displacements?
small spiky displacement...
it seems i have better colours now, uh ?
here is the "no soft shadow and no water" version.
Ugly shadows... I really don't like it but I post it for you cyphyr.
I hope it is more informative...
Franck, this is visually very effective! ;)
To me the shadows fit the rough rock surface. You can tell the sunlight is low to the horizon. In hot sun, this makes long, harsh shadows.
:o Go to hell you fu**ing bastard, it's AWESOME!!!! What a patience, I imagine how much time it took to test all those details.

HAHAHAHA greatest comment ever dude !!! ;D
Stunning Seth. The first one is photo real.
Pure realism!!
Absolutely beautiful! Even after doing a twelve-take my mind still wants to believe that this is a photo. Awesome work!
if God was a Frenchman - this is the world he would create - perfect!!! the best tg2 render to date - so many great details
david
This is very nice indeed. Mix this with some scattered strata bands here and there and some very fine soft sediment sand and who knows what else could be possible. The details alone make this spectacular.
damn... thanks guys... never thought to get so much good feedback for this one ! :)
This reminds me of some paintings by Ray Harris-Ching. He could make paradise out of dirt with some paint and brushes. He's my all-time favourite painter, so there's another compliment in the row.

Here are some close-up photographs i had taken that perhaps might inspire additional ideas.
These reference photos are reassuring. I normally think I am being too monochromatic. ;)
thanks for the pictures. i can be very very close of the first one (just need to disable a surface layer) ^^
Both are some type of sandstone. One hard and one sandy sediment. These are probably three feet above the surface from the point of view.

Thankyou :)
Of course your right it is better in the first version. It would be great if we had more control over shadows, the ability to mix differant kinds for example. Upping the GI Rel Detail would help but then you would be into days of render time lol
Great work.
Richard
did you ever try to put 2 suns at the same place but decreasing their strentgh ? one with soft shadows the other one without it ?
it might give interesting results ;)

Very interesting and coincidental, I am doing this on an image I'm now working on; and, you're right, the results are interesting and satisfying.
yup yup ^^
Wow.

BTW, are you planning a 'preset pack' through Frank any time soon?
This is absolutely fantastic.
Have you thought about using these renders with a top-down view to generate terrain/ground textures? Think about the possibilities, the ability to turn a TG2 scene into a realtime scenery because you can use the same texturing.
same tgd, different place.
Last with this file as this state. :)
it is not a final version of this though, but I want to do something new for some time.
@Falcon : sorry, i don't understand what you mean...

My best understanding of what Falcon is saying is that they be rendered from a pov looking straight down, or even orthographically, and then the resulting renders used as Plan Y projected image map textures,

Franck: awesome render
schmeerlap: great signature :)
the signature is great indeed !!! ;D
this will be a preset pack when it will be over.
right now, i am still testing its integration in other tgd. and trying to give different looking stones and sand available.
