:D
Is this a metaphor for my arse being the size of a continent or something? I'm a slender gentleman, I'll have you know! ;)

Sorry too shoot you down unless this is a joke and I don't think you posted as such, however the Planet Uranus is known to be of a class of Planet called a Gas Giant and there is no such theory that there is a planet scale ocean there. Given that is orbits the sun a distance of about 1.78 billion miles (2.87 billion kilometers) this distance is too far too sustain an ocean.
While its true that Uranus in its atmospheric composition dose contain trace amounts of water vapor detected I believe using the technique of heavy iron spectroscopy there is not enough volume too sustain an ocean. It should also be pointed out that like the other two Gas giants in our solar system Jupiter and Saturn and more over gas giant class plant is that they have no solid surface and there axial rotations are slower meaning that an ocean could not be maintained even if they wanted one.
I think also that you have confused your self a little, there is a Moon of the Planet Jupiter called Europa that is beveled too have an ocean under its ice though this as yet is unproven but there is strong anecdotal evidence such as the absence of impact craters on its surface. Just clearing up some misconceptions. ;D
Regards to you.

On terrestrial planets (such as Earth) the surface (whether ocean or land) is always clearly distinct from the atmosphere. On gas giants such as Uranus, this is not the case: they have a gradient density surface. This means that as you approach their upper atmosphere, you encounter gas which gets progressively thicker as you go deeper, until you're in a fog so dense it is practically a liquid. And from there the liquid gets thicker, like a thickshake I guess, until the pressure crushes your spacecraft. At no point could you say "I'm on the surface".
So liquid, maybe; ocean, no.
So you're saying Uranus isn't really a planet.. More a giant ball of gas?
Uranus is one of the 4 gas giants, or planets whose gas composes the majority of its mass.
The surface composed of rock and ice is surrounded by an atmosphere of hydrogen, helium and methane. So the NASA says (Voyager 2)...
so jay88, it seems it is possible to say, at one point, "I'm on the surface" ^^

Apparently.... and I don't know where I heard this, but according to some reliable sources, the Moon is made of cheese. ;D
cheers, Simon.
P.S. this is image sharing... where's the image?
"Who are you Sir Knight who knows so well the ways of science?"
I think your meaning neptune has an ocean i dont think uranus does neptune may have a planet scale ocean as its core is mass az hot personally I think thats bullshit I dont even thing gas or ice giants have solid rocky cores i think its more of a super solid gas due to the massive pressure of the atmosphere and gravity ;D
wherez the render anyway?
Neptune has a hot core of come type. I think this was a recent discovery and why the clouds move at such high velocities as the heat creates convection which in turn causes high and low pressure systems to form.
and it came to pass that after many many years the clouds parted and for a brief moment, the sun shined where it never was intended to shine.
Wait for it ....... Is this Uranus ? ???
doesn't look 'gasy' enough!!!
:D
" snare and cymbal sound " :P

ps. I guess that uranus cheese doesnt have the same 'ring' to it!!
But where has that Black Hole chappy got to? Hope he hasn't fallen into one. Easily done, and we wouldn't have heard him scream. Surely he's not up . . . . . (shudder-shudder), no, brrrr, perish the very thought.

OK. Let's get back to the original subject of the thread, which is TheBlackHole attempting to post an image he'd done called "The Surface of Uranus". And I'll try not to be too trollish about it.
dandelO gave helpful advice to TheBlackHole on how to upload an attached image, and littlecannon asked where the image was, correctly reminding us that this is the Image Sharing section.
To TheBlackHole:
Click on Additional Options,
Click on the Attach .... Browse button,
Select the image file you want to upload from where it is on your hard drive,
And when you are ready, press the Post button on the bottom.
If you are still encountering a problem please let us know.
If we don't here from you in this thread we should assume that you have changed your mind to post an image.
Regards
John
The render is on another thread. Stop posting here and start posting there. It's called "Surface of Uranus repost 2". The problem with the post was that the pic was over 512 KB and this forum didn't let me post it. I then had to resize it and it is now up.
