Hey guys, I've got two versions of a scene here and I can't decide which of the two to pursue, or which elements of the two. I like the water, reflection and the smaller displacement of the rock on the first one but don't like the fact that the sky is completely white nor do I like the spikey overhang. But I also like the shadow that it casts. Which do you prefer?
Oh and I was also thinking of adding a simple power fractal over to the right there.
Hi PG... I definitely prefer the water and shadow of the first image, it looks very real. The pointed overhangs are a bit extreme as you say, but I wouldn't worry about the sky being white as you can't allow for exposure of both the sky and the rock shadow/dark places. Look at photos and you'll see bleached out sky if the light reading is taken for the dark areas. you could try adding a bit of GI to get more detail from the dark areas. You could try Ambient Occlusion too or fill lights. But for me.... the First image deffo.
Cheers, Simon.
I like the water in the first one. My eye is drawn to the second one; I think because of the rock color. The colors are ones I always seem to use. :-[
I think the overhang in the first one is just too spiky for believability - it also has a short section that's just a straight line. If you could somehow tone it down just a little, I think I'd prefer it.
Thanks guys. On the second one all I did was accidentally turn on adjust coastline and it gave me the weird bowl thing. I'll try turning the lead in scale down, that seems to do the trick.
First one, slate. Second one, sandstone but i like number two better as well.
ok, here's version 2. I think I'll add a small rockslide on there too, looks a bit waxy at the minute. only little pebbles but I don't think pebbleslide is a proper colloquialism. There may be vegetation on the rough hills in the background..either that or it's a smudge on my monitor. Still don't like how white that is though.
Looks good. It may be my monitor (doesn't handle contrast well), but some more detail on the near cliff face would help. Maybe some larger fake stones embedded into the face would work.
