Title: Hey Matt -- any solution yet for the missing polys bug?
Post by: gregsandor on September 23, 2009, 02:01:46 AM
Maybe this is a new problem (ref the files viaduct files I sent you where the models fail to render completely when camera intersects bounding box.)  In this case as in the railroad I  sent, the tents are populations, and some instances render fully while others do not.  They are all quads (so no 5-sided polys causing it.)

As an aside, is there any way to get a population to stay in a straight line when restricted narrowly?  Each line of wedge tents is .25 m x 30 m, yet they are forward and back of the centerline by more than that .25 m restriction.

Just a question: was your population quality setting at "highest"?
As far as I think I understood this setting, anything lower than highest will result in some individual instances not being rendered with the full geometric detail. That'a ok for - say - trees, as in the distance, it doesn't matter if a twig or a few leaves are missing.
That said, I could be mistaken, but that's what I would try with your tents first.

Cheers,
Frank

They're at "High."  I'll move them up to "Very high" and see what happens.

Edit:

Changed them to Very high quality.  The shadows render and some of the polys, but not all;  some instances render just fine but others not.

It's probably the same bug that affected your viaduct scene, and has been fixed in versions that are currently in alpha testing. Our work took a major diversion based on some discoveries we made with object rendering (resulting in some important changes for the next release), so that has delayed the release of these bug fixes. I'll send you an email.

Cool, I'm really looking forward to the next release, the teaser images we've seen so far look very intriguing :)

Any news on gregs other question?

Bump for what? The render error is probably fixed. You can send us your text objects/scene to verify, or wait for the actual release.

In regards to aligning objects to a grid, that's not going to be in the next version, but we're considering it for the future.

I haven't sent the email that I promised yet - sorry about that.
