Title: Towers + cirrus
Post by: domdib on October 06, 2009, 05:09:33 PM
A simple one, using njeneb's Towers terrain (thanks njeneb!) and cirrus.

I like the clouds and the darker sky. I have been using a distribution shader to break up the strata with close ups.

Mmm - the sky is darker than I wanted it - this seems to have come about when I changed it from 16 bit to 8 bit and then saved for web in PS. May have to do some more postwork...

I'm curious njeneb - why do you break up the strata, and what exactly do you mean?

In your picture, look at the layering in the rock faces. It is very regular. The layering stretches across the entire face. If you break this up, so smoother or rougher areas peak through, it breaks up the regularity of the rock face. Making it more interesting. For distant shots, I usually don't worry about this.
If you use the same distribution shader, copy it, then use the invert shader option; more details and textures can be used.

This image is closer to what I was aiming at...

The sky looks electric. I like the new render better. I would still work on breaking up the strata and adding some lateral displacements to break up the layers.
