Title: Das Boot
Post by: schmeerlap on October 10, 2009, 05:38:15 AM
I downloaded this great freebie U boat from http://www.colacola.se/expo_uboot.htm some time ago (it's by Anders Lejczak, and no way have I shown it in all its glory with this simple silhouette shot). Anyway, it's been sitting on my HD for months so I thought I'd give it a trial run (before the blessed thing siezes up). I need to up the Atmosphere samples higher than the current 60 to get rid of the noise. Better clouds will also help. This is either a wip or a fgsrsym (for-god-sake-render-something-you-muppet).

Well, this is already stunningly realistic. Some foam perhaps? And a distant plane to get some tension in the air...

A convoy in the distance would be appropriate. You have many ship photos. If you modeled the ships yourself, they would not have to be very detailed. Maybe some low, not very dense fog to obscure them partially would look cool.
I do agree with Dune. For a 'I don't know what to do for now' render, you have done a very interesting image.

Yep, foam is good, and a bit of spume splashed alongside the hull. And yep, a nice juicy oil tanker on the horizon, sounds good. I'll look around for a low-poly freebie that'll do the job.

You're working towards a WWII classic here ...keep on.

Very nice!  With some foam added this could be a scene from the movie.
