Title: Standing Stones
Post by: Henry Blewer on October 16, 2009, 11:18:53 AM
I made the stones in Blender. So far I have just worked on the grasses. I need some other plants and maybe some distant clouds. Rendered at 0.3 1200 x 675.

Any suggestions would be welcome. :)

Hooray ;D... Tall standing stones. They might look great with a sunrise/set behind them Solstice stylee. Small paths running around them as though people had over the years worn down the area near them... maybe.
cheers,
Simon.

Oops, I dropped the camera!
I added more clouds to the Standing Stones landscape, but moved the camera into the grass.

Just thought it was a cool image. By the way. The grasses are Walli's, thanks for the great objects!

I like the idea of this camera perspective! Keep going with ths one I want to see what you come up with :)

Someone running past in sackcloth would be interesting...uh, but you might have already thought of that.   ;D

Actually, I like it a lot.  The lower key lighting could be made even more distinct by having some sharp lighting across the field in the distance.  But, I like this.

Pagan footprints, a pile of chalices, and evidence of very deep thinking.

thats a very nice scene. Probably some stronger light. And some druids dancing around the stones ;-)

Put that camera back on its tripod. Yeh, I like it. The only suggestion from me is a scattering of small fake stones on the soil, in between the grasses.

That's what I forgot, small stones! I'm doing a render now using Littlecanyon's suggestion of sunlight behind the standing stones. The super sample prepass looks good. I am rendering this to see if I need raytraced shadows.

Well 19hrs 33mins later. I think the cloud layer just above the sun needs work. The bright green on the ground is supposed to be moss. The reds did not show up in the moss.

Detail 0.75, AA 5, Super Sample Prepass, Atmosphere quality 96.

Now that's what I'm talking about. This looks good. I'd personally do higher quality and AA for the final render. You could add some small stones and some small/tiny plants if you have them to break up the ground a bit. Lookin' good though.

Njeneb you and some other guys here have realy great patience .I don't know if i would wait so much time for one render.

This one has realy great potential.

And i think we will see many more ones when you get your new pc.

Kadri.

I use one tread so I can do other stuff. There is an old text/graphics game called Zangband I play a lot. It's very primitive, 8 bit stuff, but I like playing.

I like the stones but I think a different POV would work better, maybe turn it so nearest stone is closer to the camera and maybe show a little texture to the stone, higher up ? cast some shadows off the stones ?

I had to use tons of ambient occlusion. It killed the shadows. There is also a fog (cloud) layer right on the ground. I did this to hide the end of the grass populations, and if I made it thicker, adds effect. I turned it down for this render. My memory should arrive tomorrow, and I will work on this again.

There was this old game on my old PC (Windows 98, got rid of it a long time ago (but not in a galaxy far far away  :D(yes I'm a Star Wars fan))) called Skunny. I loved that game. There was almost no mouse support (but you could use it to edit levels) and it was hard to get all 100 keys to beat the levels, but it was very fun. When I got rid of my computer I also lost Skunny.  :'( I've been looking for a place to download it so I can put it on my new (ish) PC. But everywhere I can find it, I have to pick a "download partner" and enter a contest, but I don't want to and I can't supply a fake ANYTHING! So if you (anyone) have it, just .zip it up and post it here. I'll download it and possibly reward you with a TG2 asteroid model! Plus a few texture maps! Of course, I might also simply put up some text art, so don't count on the model or the maps. Text art from me is usually guaranteed, so expect it. Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread.

Latest render. I changed the clouds, added fake stones, and applied an image map to the stone models. I think it's time to move along...
