Title: CryEngine 3
Post by: PorcupineFloyd on October 16, 2009, 03:47:08 PM
Have you seen this? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-_pnqXLIg4

Looks like they are implementing GI in real-time. I wonder what are the caveats or limitations.

Mafia II has something very similar but doesn't make it quite so "obvious". 2K Czech use it more subtley. How often in a game like crysis will you see a bright red bookcase and a snooker table? I remember a quote from a guy I don't remember other than that he was a game developer. He said that the paradox of visual design is that to truly pull off realism no-one should notice.

Wow!  That is awesome lighting there.  Version 3 has surpassed everybody else apparantly.
(now to implement that snappyness in a T2 preview window ...just dreaming!)  - Bill .  ;D

Actually, I think something like it could happen. If this project is as good as it looks in a video, a fast computer using the new shading tech could speed Terragen 2's preview update quite a lot.

The problem is that it's not real GI. It's fake and Terragen 2 uses real GI.

It does with the 'real' render. It may not have to with the preview. It will be interesting to see if this gets adopted by game and graphics developers.
