Title: Modeling Blahs
Post by: Mandrake on October 17, 2009, 04:52:04 PM
I have the look don't look model blahs, ya know you can spend months working on a model, so looking around can give you the ho hums.
Have a question, about this model. Has anyone got the deformers right to work on stone columns like this?

I'd think that if the rocks could be deformed right, this could be a killer TG2 render..

I know there must be scads of reference pics to get each rock, but I've never looked at mapping rocks like this.
Has anyone done justice to the Stonehenge site?

Go for it... don't think anyone has done a stonehenge render. Surely you only need to model the stones (in Cinema I see...) and deform the mesh a bit and let Terragen do the rest. You could do a nice nurbs shape and just push and pull it a bit to roughly the right shape.
cheers, Simon.

Just use a little displacement. Nobody cares if that little lump goes there, or that crack doesn't exist, or that pit is on another stone...

Mandrake you read my mind! Just the other day I was playing with the idea of starting a Stonehenge render.

I did this one July 15, 2008. I did not know anything about objects then, it's an early render in my T2 endeavors.

As for shading. Add a surface layer, then use color and displacements with in T2 like you would a terrain. (with appropriate scales)

Actually, Inky hit TerrAde with a rock, hard head, and we've been chatting about it. So I guess it's cyclic.. argh argh or Boo!

I have looked at Stonehenge. But since I am not an artist and don't like modelling, I will do it procedurally (blue nodes).

Hit me pretty hard too, usually I give up as soon as i start all these complicated modellings. I will stick this one out. Its half way thru now, and its a right pain in the ass trying to get the stones looking the way they should, and i aint even gone that far as to do. I started a thread and some images of the plan back on ashundar site
