Title: Hello and Ambush Valley

John (Weeladdie) suggested I might want to upload my render here.  I've been an inactive member for awhile now.  I know some of you, but I don't recognize many of your usernames.  Honestly, I feel a bit intimidated by the level of expertise I see here, but I can also see there is much to learn from all of you.

This image uses much of what I learned in John's Ben McDuff tutorial and incorporates suggestions from John, Bob (choronr) and phfrancke.

Additional credits: Pine01 by Walli; also used dandelO's procedural grass as part of my shader mix for the surface; inserted it as a clip file.

Welcome, Linda.

An excellent introductory render. That's an impressive buttress, and the scene has good perspective. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Don't hesitate to ask if you have any TG2 problems.

where did you get the terrain from ? is a power fractal or a .ter file ?

I don't see that you need to feel intimidated. I think this is a very good image. I am sure we would all like to see your stuff. 8)

Terrain is a power fractal with various shaders utilizing more power fractals.

Welcome Linda, you're here in a good place for meeting a lot of helpful friends. You are making great progress for one who has just got started with TG2. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I neglected to give you credit for my pine tree population, and I apologize for that.  Had it not been for the how-to you wrote, I'd still be struggling to get those pines to show up.  Thanks again.  :)  Linda

A damn fine render. I like the lighting and clouds and the terrain. dandelO's procedural grass works really well in this shot. If I may venture 2 bits of constructive criticism...

1 More "Lower" trees. ie. the ones on the main grassland at the bottom of the cliff. Keep them to the same general area, just higher density. Maybe extend them off into the background along the whole of the cliff edge.

2. The upper cliff looks fine as it is. I love the displacement of the lower cliff, I would just say that a bit more colour wouldn't go amiss. Not too much, and keep it subtle, colour wise....

Just been back for a 2nd look whist writing this and I must say, I do like the lighting. Looks very natural!
