Title: Making plants
Post by: Stridemovies on November 03, 2009, 09:42:53 PM
Wanting to make some plants - Poppies for a desert scene in Terragen 2 does any body produce them as an item and do they have to be
in .obj format to populate a scene.

I think for now we can use only tgo , obj  and lwo files for populations (not counting the fake stones).

You may have seem these ...But in case....

Thanks for all this guy's, will down load the free models a try some tests out. Zylot loved your image "At Peace" was wanting to achieve something like this any info in render times when doing highly populated scenes like this.

Well, as far as free models go, Walli gave planet side some good models, the pine trees in "At Peace" are those.  The grass is actually the stuff Walli has on NWDA, and is of the highest quality, I recommend getting it, it's not expensive in the least.  The windmill and cottage were free on Ashundar.

As for render times, depends.  All the tweaks needed to have high density populations looking good (soft shadows, higher AA, Quality settings) add alot to render times, but not as much as say a boat load of water and reflective shaders everywhere.  If I recall, At Peace completed in under a day of rendering.

and if you want to, you can take a look at the downloads on my site (http://www.wallis-eck.de), there“s also some free stuff available there.

Cheers Zylot and Walli will probably get the grass pack to test out some angles for shots if they look promising may end up building some plant from scratch unless somebody else has them in the pipe line.
Loved the craned aerial shot of the flower bed you had on your site Walli and the low angle looking through the tall grass to the cottage very nice angle and feel to it.

well, perhaps one of the tutorials on my site might be of interest. They usually also contain textures and objects, so they should be useful in any case ;-)
