Title: Some recent works
Post by: chris_x422 on November 06, 2009, 02:15:22 PM
Hi everyone.

I don't post as often as I perhaps should, but thought I'd show a little of what I've been up to lately.

First, a link to some new work.

http://http://1isok.com/egypt_01.htm (http://1isok.com/egypt_01.htm)

The shot was a huge task, for a major client and very little time to produce. Terragen really came though for me on that shot.

On the 422 South youtube channel there are also more updates on the work I've been doing in terragen, which is quite a lot this past year.

I've some time off next week so might try to post some more on my site, or even HD versions if anyone would like to see them.

Also, here's a quick concept, done the other day as a quick test for a client.

Wow..... Chris is it? You have some seriously cool work going on there. Is the receding oceans from the Discovery show? The Exploding Archeology is absolutely stunning and very impressive. Your right, you should post more often as I can tell you have a lot to offer. As far as making HD versions.... yes please.

Any info on how you achieved this (Archeology) in Terragen would be.... well inspiring.
Cheers,
Simon.

This image is sweet! The foreground looks really nice, though the background mountains could use some more work. Keep chugging along with TG2, your work shows promise  :) Also, that youtube video is spectacular!

Thanks,

@ littlecannon
The oceans are from Draining the Oceans for NatGeo, it received thier highest ever ratings and has led to another commision for an even bigger production.
I'd love to give more info on the archeology techniques but could get into some trouble and would need clearance, I'm usually only allowed to write in laymans terms.
It's very simple stuff though, mainly masks and ramps. The volumetrics are all done in Terragen, only the additional large debris (on the pyramid at the end) was added later in comp.

@ darthvader1
You're right about the mountains, received hardly any attention at all, if I get the time, I hope to spuce it up a bit.
Thanks for the encouragement.

@ Kadri
Thanks, I'm usually too tired or too busy. But I read posts here every day and really appreciate the vast contribution this community makes to it's members.

Cheers

Chris

The animation is absolutely incredible. I also like the soundtrack! After the camera crashes in the pyramid, after the blackout, I would have liked to see a total view on the buildings, with slow camera movement for a view seconds. I remember a scene from the beginning of "The Mummy" which could be comparable. Anyways, just an idea, impressive work you did here!

Thanks again,

Hi Ra, It would have been nice to have a final overview of the scene, but the customer is always right.

Thanks guys, glad you like it.

Here's another piece, no where near as dramatic as the Egypt work.
Client had very little budget, but exacting requirements.
It's a version of an existing landscape, as it was some 700 years ago.
I had to geographically match a photograph taken on location, so they could mix from that, to the animation.
I was lucky enough to find a rough low res dem of the area and match the original camera position. Saved me so much work.

HD animated version, approx 58mb

Thanks dandelO,

I owe you a big thanks anyhow, it was through picking up yours and others freely given work that I was able to get a grip on Terragen.
Cheers!

Here's an update to the Alpine shot.

Thanks inkydigit.

Here's another one that was part of some pitch work.
We have very little time to spend on these, as it's unpaid work for the company, but essential for bringing in new work.
This utilises accurate LIMA data of antarctica. I also did some slow moving camera tests at a much lower level.

I looked at the still. It's very difficult to tell if it's a satellite image or rendered. Fantastic work.

Ah, bandwidth exceeded. :( I'd love to see the animation, let us know when you've got it on Vimeo (hopefully in HD ;D).

Funny you should say that, but I can't talk about the pitching process here, as much as I'd love to.

And you're right, a sun would be good, ran out of time again!

The Blue Marble... Lovely render and it looks real. The animation brings it to life. (I know about late nights and pitching... )
Cheers,
Simon.
