Title: 3D populations
Post by: DJ on November 26, 2009, 04:06:50 AM

Does anyone know if it is possible to define populations that are distributed not only on a surface but in 3 dimensions, for example swarms of birds, fish, etc?

Thx DJ

I may well be talking out of my arse here (why break the habit of a lifetime  ;D ) BUT... I believe that a Power Fractal used for distribution works in all 3 dimensions, just untick the "sit on terrain" tick box in the Terrain tab of the population....

Then again, maybe thats rubbish *shrugs*

Thank you mr-miley.
If I got it right it should be possible to define a painted shader, connect it with a (invisible) PFS, and place a population on it.
I will try this...

Make a very spikey terrain that only will feed into the terrain node of the population and have your population sit only on that terrain.
