This is exactly what happens.  EXACTLY.

The best clients are ones that just accept what you as the designer tell them is good.

Client do not call you to solve their problems, they call you to implement their brain damaged "solution" to what they think is their problem. If they did the same with the plumber, their houses woud be wetter than the ocean.

Do NOT think you can get satisfaction from customer tasks, they are ONLY to pay the bills. If you want to create something significant, start or join an open source project of your liking.

Project control shouldn't leave the web designer.  Business decisions motivate the requirements, but their needs to be a cutoff date to when the requirements are no longer changeable without a penalty in time and / or money.
