Hi guys,
I've purchased a simple fence model from turbosquid, but didn't pay attention that it comes in a .max format, which I cannot convert into anything TG2 readable with he software I have.
It's a small low poly model, roughly 2.5 MB large. I was wondering if anyone here can convert it into .obj for me?
Just pm me if you would like to help.
Thanks,
Frank
Import it into another 3d modelling application such as Silo, Blender, or even PoseRay (which is free) and save/export it in obj format.
Woops, I assumed .3ds format. I'll have to check for apps that will import .max

Schmeerlap , i don't can verify this at the moment but i think they don't import MAX format .

yes, that is the problem. It seems you have to have max in order to save it into another format...
Check out this link which suggests ".max" is a PaperPort (and you need to download Paperport - link included in article) format and may be 2d as the article talks about it being converted to jpeg or gif. It's all rather dated stuff here, though.

So far i know there aren't any Max importer (Polytrans and so need Max too)...You have to own Max. Not nice...!
If anyone knows one i would be pleased to know :)
Cheers.

Frank , can you install the demo of Max ? Don't know the limitations of it.
But i am sure someone will make it for you . I think it isn't worth it to hassle :)

I would have thought your easiest solution would be to get in touch with the original author of the model and just ask them if they would mind too much saving it out for you as an .obj.

With the 30 day trial you can read the .max and export it as .obj.
Then edit the .mtl and delete the tabs at the beginning of the lines. This is necessary because of a bug in the TG obj-reader.
Also remember to convert any sub patches or nurb surfaces into polys.

thanks guys :)
