Title: Garden wall
Post by: Kevin F on December 07, 2009, 12:19:50 PM
Here's a new one making extensive use of Objects.
Thanks go to :
American Elm - Marc Gebhart and Greenworks
Wall, Iron gate and Vinca - Ogre
Hollyhock, sunflower, pansy, narcissus, lily - Drew Costigan
dracaene fragrans, field grass sorry lost the details.

C&C welcome

cool!

There's something that fools my senses, though. On the wall to the right, before the gate, the stone texture looks messed up, and my brain keep telling me that I'm not looking at a wall, but at a dirt field that is behind the sun flowers, and extends up to the trees.

Cheers,
Frank

The object placement is really well done, but I think that the Point of view is a little awkward and the lighting is pretty flat.  Try bumping up the exposure.

Don't quite see what you mean Frank (do you mean behind the ivy branches?). Maybe I've looked at it for too long! can't be anything else to me. I might try taking RArchers advice and removing the flatness in the light - maybe a lower angle with increased exposure? or different POV?

Interesting... i didn't see the wall at all at first. Now i can at last  :)
This isn't a bad thing. But if many sees this like us maybe it is really a good thing to change the pov or lighting slightly.
Nice image Kevin.

I thought that the wall around the gate had fallen down. Frank is right about the texture there, it looks wrong. I think this would benefit from a POV closer to the ground, from a person's POV standing. (But all most all of my stuff is like this, so I may have a fixation.)

The light is much better!  Still not loving the POV though.  Here's a thought.  Move the camera to the left, place the flower garden in the imediate foreground, the wall about a third of the way into the picture, and then that huge valley/distance area in the background.  This should give the image a ton of depth while keeping the interest on the garden and wall.

it was the ivy stems that were causing the wierdness?....much better, agree that maybe another pov would be interesting!

Here's the latest and final version of this scene - I've had enough of it!
Tried to incorporate most changes as suggested and they work quiet well really?
Thanks again to all those mentioned in the original post.
C&C welcome.

Reminds me of the Finger Lakes in NY State. Good work.

Thanks for the positive comments guys.
@Marc it took about 7hrs but with one tile missing, and then another hour or so for the missing tile. So not too bad at all really.
settings were detail .8, AA9, GI 2,2.
