Title: Cirrus
Post by: FrankB on December 18, 2009, 08:51:15 AM
I am working on better Cirrus. I've been doodling with these for so long, that I am not sure whether I'm still able to tell if they're good or not.
Some feedback would be much appreciated.

Thank you and regards,
Frank

Frank, you need to get out more... ;D

Actually these are quite good. I don't add so much detail to my cirrus. I probably should. But unless the focus is on the clouds, like here, people will imagine that you have more detail than is really there. But this is an impression I get from Flickr, many of the people there are not all that observant.

One thing I would add to this is more 'root' for the clouds. The wispy clouds often form from larger, less defined areas. A note on this observation, my eyesight is Bad. It's almost to the point where I can't get a drivers license. So details that people with good vision are totally lost to me. The plus side of this is when I don't have my glasses on, everyone looks much better. ???

The only thing I might change is the noise. There are high winds up there, stretching the clouds out. I would either use less noise, or stretch one of the axis in the general direction the clouds seem to 'blow'.

I think version 2 is better. To me version 2 looks more natural. Did you use any of Matt's scalloped clouds for inspiration. (I was thinking about both of them as I tried to sleep)

These look like Cirrostratus or Cirrocumulus but we have a ways to go to get true Cirrus.    :'(

Dark and dynamic.  Nice Cirrus, Frank!  Linda

Nice work for sure, but still too much fractal pattern repeat.  I think most of us struggle with this.

This is extremely hard to get away from in TG2 with its limited fractal generators at this time.  Hoping they'll add more fractal types in the future.

I find the first render more appealing and realistic. Nice one Frank.

Great work version two reminds me of the skies we get at home.

I prefer version 2, but both are nice.  Don't take this the wrong way, but they kinda remind me of clouds you could get outta T0.9 :)
