Title: A neat update scanning utility for Windows
Post by: penang on December 26, 2009, 12:33:33 AM
The author is from Germany, its interface is German.

But that utility is neat nevertheless.

I just found it and wow, I didn't know there are already 70 update files awaiting. :)

The location: http://www.syssel.net/hoefs/windows/count.php

For windows XP, Vista and 7.

Drivers or OS updates?  M$ updates it self every Tuesday.  What's wrong with Windows update?

Already twice the Window Update wreck havoc on me. So now I won't let Windows to update itself. I always check every single update and also check for possibility of the update thrashing my computer.

I don't do automatic update. I wait most of the time 1 week or so. Most often you hear in this period  if there are problems from the internet anyway.
If there aren't any bad news i do it manual . So far so good .

Kadri.

Edit : As i wrote this my pc shut down. No! Not updates. The fan of my display card is gone  :(
It is nearly 2 in the night. I have to wait until the morning. There where i live aren't so good pc vendors. Maybe i have to wait 2-3 day for a good fan.
But i have a temporary fan for now  ;D

Nice fan work around!  ;)

If you are referring to auto-update, NO I never do that. I let Windows yell at me and I install it several days later.
I agree now with what you are saying. Some updates can be flaky.

Plus auto-update is a real good way to kill off a render- with no save!  - Bill .

Sorry about your fan. I had to rebuild my graphics card when it just went wacky.
I finally received all the Vista updates. Took a week, even checking for them manually. It would be nice if they would install and just go to work.
Good news. After re-installing, the memory issues seem to have stopped. I can do large renders! (At least so far) The one I am rendering now is into 22 hours (Pentium 4, 1 thread) Not even half done. I hope it turns out....
