Title: Crater Lake
Post by: EoinArmstrong on December 26, 2009, 04:59:58 PM
Original rendered in almost 7:30 at 1680x1050.  Much faster than before :)

Had trouble with this scene as I had switched on raytrace everything.  Bad move apparently!

Anyways - here's a shrunken version - enjoy...

nice vista - shame for using ray trace everything (here), though :)

Actually this is the version where I'd switched it off - you should have seen the mountains in the background beforehand - nasty...

Nice scene , EoinArmstrong .
I have a feeling that this scene is maybe also suitable for a vertical render (with the same hight as seen here...like a crop) . Just a thought  :)

Oh very, very nice, Eoin.  Beautiful and serene, and I think your work here is excellent.  Linda

Nice scene Eoin :) Classic buildup, but well done. I like these little details like a small patch of cloud here and there.
If it were up to me I'd improve just one part of the image and that would be the lighting. On my monitor it is very dark, mainly around the trees.
I think this one could either use improved GI settings, use 2/2 or if you already did use 2/4 and/or with an AO enviro light added set to 0 for atmo and somewhere around 0.25-0.5 for surfaces.
Looking forward to see your next one :)

Cheers,
Martin

A bit of sunlight playing in those trees would enhance the scene. I also remember buzzzzz doing scenes like this where the viewer looked across a lake from a piece of foreground upon which he'd put some foliage to look through. That piece of foreground can easily be supplied (if your crater is too big and it puts you too far away) by placing a white on black image map with displacement under the render camera to create an island in your crater, or indeed a negative crater within your crater. Just a thought.
