Hi everyone,
Here's an image I made using Old_Blaggard's node-setup for creating archs.
It's quite heavy to compute and thus rather slow, especially when you are going to add quite some displacement, strata and voronoi-based cracks on it. The atmosphere is from Frank's sky starters pack from NWDA. Rendered at 0.9 quality samples and 48 atmo samples.
So therefore this render took some over 12,5 hours with detail 0.75, AA6 and GI 1/1 (+AO set to 0.4).
Normally, when I render for so long I end up with quite nice images, but this time :p lol
So, merely a showcase for the arch than for beauty :)
Thanks for sharing this Paul :)
With a little help from Paul I hope to post a clip in the file-sharing section here soon, so you can all have a go with it.
Thanks for stopping by, cheers,
Martin
This looks new and refreshing, certainly a good start! ;) I like the motive, has a lot of potential in it.

Thanks Gyver :) I'm pretty certain that I'm not going to work on this specific one anymore.
I'll probably do another attempt :)
It is really different. I am waiting for your next one , Martin :)

Ghehe I know I know, it's a sucky picture :) :p
Ooops ! After your post i read my message . It can be interpreted in that way.
But that was not my intention. Really , Martin. You said that you wanted to make a new one.
Thus i spoke so. Please don't forget English is not my mother language :)
Cheers.

Haha, don't worry man, I know you didn't mean it that way and even if you did, no problem! It's the truth :)
:)
(No false interpretations on this smiley please ;D )

I actually think this image has potential to be pretty good. The lighting to me is a little too sharp, and I would certainly tone down the white surfacing (sand?). At the top right, is the sharp displacement deliberate, or is that the exploding fake stones problem?

Thanks for your crits :)
No these are not fake stones problems but blendshading troubles related to combining different strata-shaders. I saw it while rendering around 75% so I really didn't like to solve it anymore.
The scene was very node-heavy and I didn't had the patience anymore to carefully tweak the lighting. It is indeed a bit harsh and sharp, and so is the sand.
It was done very roughly and quickly as you can see.
Cheers,
Martin
Nice use of the technique, Martin. As do others, I look forward to where you end up pushing this.
There are places like this along the seashores of our Earth ...you've got to keep this one going Martin ...don't give up on it!
Great image, really!
I have been to Zakynthos this year and I saw a lot of places your image is reminding me of.
I agree that the sand is much too white. It's almost blinding. I think the whole image looks a bit overexposed.
The rock structure and the arch are superb.
Looking Good, looking forward to seeing how it's done.
Thank you all so far :)

I've mailed Paul (O_b) for sharing a clipfile here at the forums. He kinda agreed already, but I want to be sure that they way I have reorganized and renamed stuff in the network is correct so you guys really have use of it.
So please stay tuned :)
