Title: Dreadnaught WIP
Post by: cyphyr on December 30, 2009, 03:51:25 PM
I've not posted any images in a while as my main workhorse PC is dead to the world, I'm reduced to using my laptop for the time being and cant access my files on the old girl either. :(

This model is intended to be included in the extended version of the animation  (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=8118.msg87028#msg87028)I was working on a month ago or so. I've a few ideas for some more airships scudding about the place, smaller ones :)

Thanks for looking and C&C always welcome

:)

Richard

Very steam punk looking airship. I like it.

Jules Verne would be enthralled! Nice work. It also reminds me of an early World of Warcraft scene.

Nice model , Richard.
I have only 2 questions... The bolts seems a little to big to me?
The black area between the pieces are a little too wide . I mean especially the upper parts. The lower parts are ok i thing.
But really nice concept as a whole  :)

Kadri.

Very nice blimp.
Hope you'll show the other airships as well when done.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm really looking forward to animating this (especially with the new build :) ) I just need to re-build my system and get at my old project files.

I'm concerned and intrigued with the animation settings.
As the animation will focus on:
1 all terrain,
2 terrain and clouds,
3 all clouds,
4 clouds and model (the model in the clouds, partially enveloped by the low cloud),
5 clouds and model and terrain,
all in one smooth 60sec long animation will I be stuck in Raytrace everything mode?
I don't think I'll be able to really answer this till I get the new system built.

@Kadri, thanks, yes I see what you mean, probably a re-build is in order.
@Matrix2003 & schmeerlap: yes Steampunk is the new pirate, that is the look I'm going for with maybe a bit of farscape thrown in for good measure  ;D

That's indeed a pretty steam punk model.
Looking forward to see your animation, especially the high res and detail, must be amazing! :)
What's your rough estimation on finishing this?

I'm not sure what you mean here about the RTE mode?

Cheers,

Its difficult to make comparisons since I cant access my old files for now but I get the impression that with raytrace objects enabled, an object that is half in and half out of a cloud will "down sample" the overlapping part of the cloud. It seems that some of the optimisations are specifically for scenes where its all cloud or all terrain but not for scenes where the two intersect.

Ah yes I see what you mean. You're correct about that discrepancy indeed. It's got to do with your AA probably, but I can't say for sure. I'm curious if you can show some examples, when your new system is fired up of course :) Thanks.

I waiting to see that very thing at this moment.. I have a cockpit with water shader and ship that half in and out of the clouds, and I'm biting my lip as the render approaches the ship.

Nice ship!!

I'm not familiar with this issue. Where has it been discussed?
