Yes, I've been watching this guy's work for quite a while now. Truly impressive what he has managed. Definitely watch the compositing breakdown as well, it's very interesting and instructive. It shows how much work happens in "post", and how impactful even just a color change can be:

It is of course always the artist and not the tools, and the degree to which this work stands out from almost anything else proves that.

Indeed, for example the breakdown video of the library showed very well that the actual single render which was used for the animation by itself was quite dull and not that superspecial.
All the extra lighting, color-correction, camera-movement and DOF-work in post really makes it.
Very interesting to see indeed.
