Title: Winter wonderland
Post by: Hannes on January 10, 2010, 05:51:59 PM
OK, here is my attempt to create snow. I decided not to use any preset or file someone else created, so I started from scratch.
I used the shiny fake stones shader method for creating the sparkling effect additionally to a luminous layer broke up by a very small power fractal.
I really miss the possibility to create sub surface scattering!
Thanks to Marc for his great snowy pine pack. PW: DOF, resizing and sharpening.

Nice snow image , Hannes.
I don't like the Dof and the Trees are looking out of scale to me ?
The snow edges seem a little weird ?

I think this looks good. I like the tree scale, but I would have tried to soften the snow edges, but I do not know how...

Hi Hannes,
DOF, snow and lighting are terrific.  Nice work and beautiful, too!

Thank you all. I spent a long time with this one. Snow is really very difficult to make if you want all those details look real, and I know it's far away from perfect. I think the only thing that's even more difficult is water. What a pity there's no sub surface scattering implemented yet in TG...

Great snow!  I like the nice dof effect too - lovely realism here :)

I agree with some of the others that the snow edges seem a little weird. It would be a good technique for dried mud. Other than that, I like it.

Superb! :)
The form of the snow looks a bit surrealistic and the DOF wouldn't have been necessary for my but it also doesn't distract.
