Title: Some recent commercial work
Post by: blackcat on January 25, 2010, 09:26:08 AM
A recent illustration for Scientific American magazine...
It depicts a scene on Saturn's moon, Titan, after a methane rainstorm...

Awesome looking render. How do you know the colors and sun is right? I have not seen methane, so I am curious.

Thanks for the compliment! A ton of research goes into these things! Partly because I like doing it and partly because the editors and authors I work with insist on it! Sometimes it takes longer to get the facts right than it does to do the artwork. In this case, the methane in Titan's atmosphere has little or no effect on the sky color. That comes from the masses of organic molecules found in the heavy cloud canopy that covers the satellite. This material is constantly sifting down, resulting in a landscape blanketed with yellow-orange goo. The sun is only about 1/9 the size as seen from earth, but would still be a brilliant light source.

Looks very good. How much is postwork, and how much pure TG2?

It's really hard to say! In this case perhaps 50/50.
