Title: Ghostship
Post by: riche on January 26, 2010, 10:50:29 AM
I'm playing about with a fog bank, feedback greatly appreciated, also if anyone knows the where abouts of a galleon style ship, could you point me in the right direction

the Image was only a quick render at 640x480, I'll render a high res version soon.

Spooooky!  Great use of atmo - let's see a watershader mixed with an alpine fractal shader for 3d-waves!

Edit: Ah okies - you've already done that in your pic below :)

Nice concept. With regard to a galleon ship, I know buzzz1 and FrankB have done renders with such a ship - not sure where they got it from - maybe Turbosquid??

Very good work. I remember the earlier post. This one is much better.

As long as you don't need too much detail, this free boat should be good for foggy distance renders. I done some with it before, none worth uploading as finished images, but still... http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-susan-constant-model/347709

Here's an old example I never uploaded before, as it was crap...

Haha! Funny that 'Ghostship' is a common render title, eh? Well, probably not funny, but quite unoriginal, anyway. :D

Does anyone else think that a bit of a green glow around the ship would look cool? I don't mean the ship its self just a small hint of some green.

found a few galleons, artist-3d.com and done a proof of concept render at 640x480, with a converted .3ds to .obj no textures

Looks promising, although the bowsprit is surprisingly long. Colouring the masts and the main body a bit darker would help.

found abit better model, and the obj looks half decent

I found a useful tool called quick3d which can convert .3ds to .obj if anyones interested

This is more interesting. I might have tried one using the Disney Green Ghost like coloring and transparency. Nice tip for the object conversion. Blender does pretty well also.
