First time I succeed in makink overhangs without using the "Twist and shear shader". I used a "Redirect shader" with 2 low octaves "Power fractals" on x and z inputs. Need to work on the rock now, but here is a preview:

this looks great, but could post a larger version? i need to see more details. :)
I will render a 1280*800 image tonight (7:30 pm here) and post the result tomorrow morning. ;)
Erwan
ok, thanks i look forward to seeing it! :)

very good Erwan, how did you restrict the redirect shader?
I'm afraid I didn't restrict anything. ;)
I used 2 power fractals on the x and z entries of the redirect shader:
100, 200 and 10 as scales, 200 as displacement amplitude and 0.5 as displacement roughness.

Worked out quite well. Nice!
cool! much better view/size :)
Ooooh. Nice.
Added a "strata and outcrops shader":

I have been looking at FrankB's latest desert scene. He uses the strata and outcrops shader also. From what I can tell, he has used a surface layer with the strata shader added into it. Then he reduced the coverage. This limits the strata so it does not stretch over everything.
This really looks more 'deserty', er, desert like now. Good work.
