Title: ALIEN
Post by: Redwolf on March 05, 2010, 09:50:57 AM
Made a rough model of the Alien ship, but will have to redo it if or when I make a close up scene, I have no idea what the back of it or the top of it looks like.
As for the terrain, well no matter how dark i made it, its supposed to be a dirty shade of grey, it came out white, must be enviro light and sun light colour settings.
There are 3 cloud layer here at low level and one cirrus at hi level, I havent a clue where the 2 cumulous layers have gone.
CC welcome and/or tips

Here are some reference shots to help you in your goal.

thanks Al
I had to redo the model as the left arm was protruding skywards, I got it as near as i could to the way it should look.
The terrain is just an ordinary P/F and covered with huge fake stones with a surface layer on the colour and a powerfractal added as a child.
Four cumulos cloud layers added and a few lightsources and 2 suns coloured grey, purple and brown.
Render time a 30 minutes at .5 quality and colour adjustment in PS

Nice  :) The last one looks much better. Maybe you could use wide format .

Well this is the finished version of the ALIEN world. I dont think I will carry on with this now or better it. Perhaps i could have detailed the planet a bit more, or decreased the lightsource....

Stick a wee light behind the camera, dude! It'd be nice to see some foreground detail that fades away into the distance towards the ship. This is nice and a good progression. Just needs more near-camera detail, I think. :)

Erie, the clouds needs that whispy look. Surface needs more light here and there. Good overall.    :)

will try the light behind the camera later, gonna have to render it overnight as it took 10 hours.

Very nice! I love the Alien movies (1-3).

managed to get some weird looking terrain up on here. Displaced a load of columns, (painted shader "dots") with twist and shear, redirect and powerfractals, render took 2.30 hours and i darkened it in PS.
Will remodel the alien derelict from scratch sometime soon as I have found refernce photos of it as a whole, to get that detailed is going to use my patience!!

this is the last of the Alien renders. I managed to get it somewhat looking like the movie image. Decided against the bluish look of it.
On to something new from now on
the first image errr is the old one....the second image is the latest version and the last

I like the bluish version. Not like in the movie but to me it has a similar feeling.
The model is very cool :)
