Title: Shipwreck Debris
Post by: Dick Dastardly on March 08, 2010, 05:06:50 AM

Been a long time using Terragen so i thought I'd give it a try again. Certainly has changed a lot.

Modelling some debris at the moment for a project. Started with basic crates. Hope to have more soon.

the crates seem enormous compared to the wave scale, good start though, I look forward to seeing this progress!

Put a crowbar on the crates  ;)

Perhaps a crate splintered and bashed in a bit would be good too?

I know they're not barrels... But I think there are Hobbits in there! ;)

Great start; we need more models like this.

Another update.

More to come, 44 gallon drums (Possibly with Hobbits) damaged crates, life bouys etc
Theme might be changing from a shipwreck to a torpedoed ship. Seems to fit the scene better.

Lighthouse on the agenda to be modelled, however not for this scene.

An update of progress with this scene. Have added some of the objects built for the scene, some UV'ed some not, though not happy with the result so far.
Depending on where the objects are placed, will have an impact on how they look. Sometimes the object will be dark other times half will be. Not sure why this is. Have tried njeneb's suggestion of using individual light sources, but with mixed results. Might leave the objects out of this one till i get more experience using Terragen . I'm sure there is a solution, just haven't figured it out yet.

You can add a new environment light or change the existing one to ambient occlusion. This can increase the global lighting. I use this when something is in too much shadow. It's very easy to get more than you want. Small 400 x 200 pixel test renders can help deciding how much is needed. Then do a crop of a full size to be sure.

It would be nice to see an oil slick near the debris.
