Title: Camera located by population or xyz coordinates?
Post by: gregsandor on March 14, 2010, 05:14:12 AM
While I'm rendering I'll throw this out and see what happens.  I'd like to do something like attach a camera to a poplulator, to keep it at the same height above the surface of the ground for driving, flying etc.  Is there a way to to this with xyz shaders or anyother way?

I am not sure about linking the camera to a population the way you suggest. Creating a camera path with a constant altitude should not be difficult. Are you trying to 'drive' the population by using the camera's path?

I was thinking of driving along the highway I'm modeling.

You could use a foreground image for the cars interior. Or, if you have the interior modeled and want to pan the camera around, just use a duplicate path for the car. Then add the camera rotations as you need them.

IIRC there was an animation utility in terragen classic that was helpful with this...to bad there's no SDK so folks can start writing stuff like this for TG2.1

bobbystahr, that's exactly what I had in mind.  I could set my camera to remain a fixed distance above teh ground as it moved.
