Title: Terragen2 with Open GL code
Post by: radom on March 25, 2010, 12:14:08 PM
Hi guys.
I'm trying to ship the scene that I created using Terragen2 to be my 3D environment on which I'll add the .3ds objects that I just created using 3D Max Studio.  I will do this using an open gl program(jogl to be more precise).

The thing is I have no idea on how open gl works with terragen2.
Any ideas or useful links?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

TG2 doesn't work with OpenGL, not in the sense you mean.

What do you mean by "3D environment" exactly? If you mean you want to be able to somehow load and display a .tgd file with your program then I'm afraid that's impossible.

Regards,

Jo

Just convert the 3DS model to lwo or obj. Add it to the  TG2 scene, then you won't need to worry about fake reflections, shadows, refraction, depth, or matching lighting.

Thanks for your reply guys.

Jo, I see that some game or simulation softwares have their land scape created by Terragen2. These games also have objects created using Open GL. That's what I'm asking. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but I think it has to do something with Terragen

You can create the terrain in Terragen then you must export it to a format compatible with the program you're using.  Your question would be better asked in the forum for your end use software.

That or you make a skybox. Use Terragen Classic to make your heightfield, then export it as LWO. Remember to make your heightfield 257x257. Then you make the skybox with TG2. Add textures made with Photoshop, and you have a 3D environment.
