Title: How to correct a heightfield?
Post by: MF_Erwan on March 25, 2010, 03:24:05 PM
I've managed to transform the MRO altimetric files (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=8694.0) to a .tif file, that can be loaded with a "heightfield load".
The problem is there are some data missing. To identify them they have been defined as having a very low altitude (-3.4028226550889045e+038 meters ;D).
I know the valid minimum and maximum altitudes.
So to have a good terrain, I would like to replace all the missing data (i.e. al points of the heighfield that have an altitude inferior to the valid minimum) and recalculate them by interpolation.

Try 3DEM, Wilbur, or Leveller. One of them should have something to take care of this semi-automatically. I know Global Mapper does, but it's rather pricey.

Since I needed it to use SRTM data (to solve this problem: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=8068.msg86167 ), I bought Global Mapper. ;D

Global Mapper is fantastic software. Good that it was within your budget, because you won't find a more powerful and flexible terrain format conversion and GIS data manipulation app for anywhere near the price. Should make things a lot easier for you. It also exports directly to TER as well as georeferenced GeoTIFF.
