different model from my last post, though the same principle geometry, it has been remeshed differently - (made with topmod, subsurfed in blender(x3) )... minor colour/contrast/levels tweaks....more to follow... :)
It looks good but can you subdivide it more , Inkydigit ? If it takes long to render it would be a problem of course ;)
thanks Kadri, I might try that, but it is tricky, this object is nearly 100mb ! I don't know how else to reduce the faceting?

100 mb ? I don't know the original format but it is heavy indeed .
Try to make it smooth as possible but then use a polygon reducing procedure in what software you can.
It is tricky sometimes as you said .
Maybe the first model was a little too rough to begin with , Inkydigit ?
you could be right, topmod is buggy to say the least, I may try to catmull clarke remesh (for the fourth time), but at a certain level, you must leave the computer alone and come back later(several beers later!)..to find nothing has changed yet....maybe I need more patience!!!(or a super computer!)
:)
Hi there,
to me it looks like you got creased edges in the early stages of your
model or maybe you subdivided without appropriate smoothing in
blender, hard to say. But,since i've done lot of these kind of objects
(in wings3d) without getting those problems or such a file size i'd
guess there's a little mistake in your workflow.
Let me know if you need/want some help with that.
@j meyer...thanks for commenting and for the offer of help. to be honest, i am a complete noob when it comes to modeling...I may post some screen shots showing the processes I am using, maybe this will help??
cheers
Jason
:)
Let's give it a try.
Ground surfacing please? :D
original object in topmod
catmull clarke x1 in topmod
catmull clarke x2
catmull clarke x3
smoothed in topmod
blender import settings
object in blender
subsurfed x2 in blender
export settings in blender
object rendered in tg
ok the object is still 60mb though I added a smooth object command in topmod, I also checked the smooth groups in import dialogue in blender....it seems a lot smoother, I may have to do some more tests/full renders to see?
The object looks good to me inkydigit . Was it more rough before ?
I may have overlooked the smooth object function in topmod, maybe this has helped?
It looks so , i hope :)
looks much better, now lets see it surfaced
the one on the left is the newest that I smoothed in topmod before importing to blender...it is half the file size, and the one on the right was subsurfed in blender an extra level as well...
Inkydigit , this is it :)
:D yay!
looks much better,
gotta try that topmod program sometime
it is good fun and the possibilities are great!
Sorry for the late reply, but the internet connection was broken yesterday evening
and just got fixed an hour ago.
Glad to see that you could solve the smoothing problem i was refering to yourself.
Most likely it was the smooth object function i'd say.
If you want to model more geometrical stuff you should consider using wings3d
instead of blender though.I've tried both and wings is definitely better for geo-
metrical things.
Keep it up,J.
no worries J...I'll look into that,
cheers
