Title: Population Clip to Camera crash?
Post by: gregsandor on March 27, 2010, 11:20:03 PM
Just posting this quickly as it's happened a few times recently.  Don't know for sure what causes it but maybe someone else has seen it too.

I recently set the populations (grass and trees mostly) in my scene to Clip to Camera.  (great feature by the way.)  I never crash TG.  Lately though, since I set the population clipping it sometimes does crash when I adjust population density or other things.  It just happened a minute ago when I tried to change grass cloumps density.

Can you verify that it only happens when Clip to Camera is set? Does it seem to be repopulating when you change settings?

When I changed the settings it crashed immediately.  I'm working with them now so I'll watch for it and post here if it happens.

I mess with the population settings more than just about any other part of Terragen 2. I have only seen this occur if the program is calculating something else, like a heightfield. The only thing which may cause this other than that is if a calculate terrain or calculate normal is linked to the populations blend shader someway.

You may also want to be sure that a blend by shader input is getting only color information if you are using functions in some way. I crashed the program the other day messing around by not making sure this is right. (Actually, I crash the program quite often while trying to use functions. I don't understand them enough, but I am learning what not to do.)
