I used several power fractals as masks for this one. Marc Gebhart's Pines and Sugar Maple. Walli's grasses and ferns.

Sweet image Henry :) I see you're getting really comfortable with rendersettings etc.
The grasses have nice subtle variations. I'm not very sure about the tree-bark-texture, but further the trees look good.
I like these type of images a bit more with less "filling" of the atmosphere.

Very nice and calm looking image. I agree with TU that the bark texture looks little weird.
The bark is straight as Marc made it. Besides the power fractal mask test, I was messing with function driven clouds. I wanted to see it. But some wispy cirrus would have looked nice also.
Thanks for the comments!
What did you try with the clouds? Sounds interesting.
agree with TU...I have played with warped and functioned clouds (with some nice/interesting results)...I will see if I can dig out an image/clip file
I added voronoi noises and a displacement shader to the density shader. Nothing Volker would bother with, too simple.
Sweet! I want to go explore or lay in the shade!
Yea, me too. It's a bit too pristine to be real. I am going to add some weeds and stuff to make it less 'Park' looking.
Looking good. You need to build on this one with additional weeds, flowers and maybe a slightly higher haze.
the tree bark looks weird, out of place - imo.
other than that, this is a really great render,
What grasses do you use?
Those are Walli's, his grasses and ferns from the sampler pack.
Thanks.
