Title: built-in cameras still have problems?
Post by: shadowphile on April 05, 2010, 12:18:43 AM
I was thinking these were fixed in the last update, but I'm finding that I still can't recover default preset 3D camera views.

do this:
1-Make the render camera's parameters visible
2-Set 3D view to 'Front'
3-Use button to copy to the render cam, observe the values for pos and rot.
4-Reset 3D view cam to 'Front' again, then pan and tilt it randomly.
5-Copy again to the render cam, its parameters should reflect the random changes.
6-Again reselect the 'Front' cam.
7-Click the Reset view button and choose the preset option. The 3D view changes.
8-Copy once again to the render cam.  Parameters are not the same as the original default values.

Hi,

Resetting the view doesn't actually reset the preset cameras. I can't remember if this was by design or a bug, but I will talk it over with the others and sort it out if need be.

Jo

Hi,

We've decided the preset cameras should be reset to defaults when resetting a 3D preview, and this will be in the next update.

Jo

that's good.  can you describe the current action, both with the camera presets (camera menu) AND the button for the 3D preview called 'Reset'?
thanks.

This has been fixed internally and will be available in a future update.

Can this be a toggle-able option. I don't actually want the camera to be re-set to its default settings when I hit reset, just the rendered preview. I often make quite a lot of changes to the camera, FOV, position, motion blur etc. It would be a hassle to have to retype al the settings.

It just resets the *preset* cameras, i.e. Perspective, Top, Bottom, Right, etc. It will not reset your actual cameras or their settings.

I can understand the orthogonal views being reset, but perspective tends to be my 'working' camera, and it isn't available for rendering either.  I would leave it alone.

I'm still not sure why I need a hot button to reset the preview.  Other than fixing broken (shifted) presets, why would I reset my 3D view?  I've tried it a few times, but only when my camera got super messed up and ended up in the Andromeda galaxy.
