Title: Object not showing
Post by: Amenbrick on April 12, 2010, 07:15:20 PM
I can't get this object to render.   If I make it much bigger it appears to be behind the terrain, otherwise it doesn't show up.

It's probably something really obvious, but I can't work it out.

Your object seems to be inside the mountain. It is going to be difficult to place this.

Try this. Allow the terrain preview to draw completely. Use the right mouse button, click on a place where you want the object, and copy the coordinates. Now paste these into the objects translate input using the box on the right side of the inputs.

Ok, after making the model much smaller (/1000), I get it in a render.

Alas, i have to consider the possibility the building is faulty.  Is it?  I have rotated it on every plane, just in case I was looking at an unmodelled face.  I tried increasing the size slightly, too.  Nada.

Tried it in a new file and all i can get is a long pole.  (it is meant to be a 30's department store, I was going to put it up against a wall and make it look like it had been carved our of the rock).

Here's a link to the model: http://gfx-3d-model.blogspot.com/2008/06/harvey-nichols.html

Odd. Try using Poseray on the model. It can take wavefront obj formats. Poseray can fix the UV image mapping and sort out the vertexes for you. Terragen 2 likes obj files 'reformated' by this program.

It won't show the model in pose ray except as vertices.   Another program to learn. Heh.

The object renders fine in TG2 (XFrog: no, as most times there is no need to use poseray ;) ), but there is a very big ground plane.

Riiiiiight.    That could be it.

To remove the ground plane you can use a 3D app like Blender or Hexagon, or you use PoseRay:

Did it!    Thanks!

Now onwards!
